Official language, Polish is spoken by 99 % of the population
in Poland. The principal dialects include small-Polish and Silesian,
spoken in the south, and the mazovien and large-Polish, spoken
in north. The Cachoube is for certain regarded as a language
with whole share.
The majority of the Poles do not speak any foreign language.
However, they generally have facilities in the training of the
languages. German is rather widespread in the west of the country.
Russian, whose training under the communism was obligatory,
is often understood, but it is not recommended to use it. English
asserts itself like the language of the communication with the
foreigners, especially for the young people.
The knowledge of the French language is spread again in the
cultivated mediums, as it was the case in the XVIIIth century,
but the language remains still little spoken.
