The Latvian national emblem combines symbols of Latvian national statehood (three stars, the sea and the sun) and symbols representing ancient historical districts.

The Latvian national anthem is Dievs, sveti Latviju!” ("God bless Latvia!"). The words and music were written by Karlis Baumanis. The anthem was first used in the second half of the 19th century when the Latvian pride and identity began to take form.
