horizontal bands of maroon (top), white (half-width), and maroon. |

The Latvian national emblem combines symbols of
Latvian national statehood (three stars, the sea and the sun)
and symbols representing ancient historical districts.

The Latvian
national anthem is Dievs, sveti Latviju!” ("God
bless Latvia!"). The words and music were written by
Karlis Baumanis. The anthem was first used in the second half
of the 19th century when the Latvian pride and identity began
to take form.
