The agro-alimentary sector in Poland

In 2004, the agroalimentary sector contributed to 6 % of the GDP in Poland and employed 540 000 people, that is 4 % of the working population.

The foreign presence is very strong, so much with regard to the foreign investors (Pepsico, Coca-Cola, Nestle, Danone, Mars, Hellenic Bottling Company, Reemtsma Cigaretten fabryk GMBH, Philip Morris, Harbin BV, Heineken...). The principal products imported by Poland are the coffee, the food preparations, the chocolate and essential oils. The Polish agro-alimentary commercial is overdrawn since 1992.

The household consumption in agro-alimentary terms of products has been for several years in reduction. The fall is generalized except for the poultry meat, the margarine, butter and beer. The sectors which resist are the milk industry, the frozen fruit and vegetables, the apple concentrate, the biscuiterie/confisery, the meat, the breweries, the soft drinks, the tobacco and the animal feeds. Stake present relates to the levelling to the Community standards.

The main competitive asset of Polish agriculture is it high biological content.
