Consumer's preference in Poland

The attraction of the consumers for the consumer society

A current joke sais that to do the shopping is the national sport in Poland. According to various surveys, between 50 and 70 % of the Poles are considered satisfied with their standard of living and affirm that they want to consume more. The Polish consumers are particularly tried by the test of new products, especially if they are the subject of the publicity in television or the radio. Generally, the promotion and in particular the quizzes and the couponing function very well in Poland.

However, the Polish consumers evolve and become increasingly demanding as for the quality and costs of the products and give more and more the preference to the local products. This tendency confirmed in the food field seems to extend to all the categories of products, as the Polish producers improve the packaging and quality of their products.

Appearance of the great distribution

Traditionally, the Polish consumers go daily in stores of district to carry out his purchases and even several times per day in several different stores according to the prices of the goods. The purchases of grocer products are generally carried out by women accompanied by the man playing a considerable role in the process of purchase. The payment is generally in cash , but the use of the credit card develops quickly.

However, in the large cities, the weekly purchase in department store increase quicklyr. This tendency is reinforced with the massive establishment of the chains of supermarkets, of the great shopping centres, the hypermarkets and Cash &Carry. These are popular thanks to linear arrangement but especially thanks to low price.
